The TV business is uglier than most things. It is normally perceived as some kind of cruel and shallow money trench through the heart of the journalism industry, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free and good men die like dogs, for no good reason.

– Hunter S. Thompson
Generation of Swine: Tales of Shame and Degradation in the '80s 1988

There are several David Giovannonis in the world so take a moment to ensure this is the one you're looking for.

David Giovannoni grew up in central California and got into broadcasting at too young an age and stayed in it too long. According to the myths he is either the genius who saved public radio or the philistine who wrecked it; he emphatically notes that both characterizations suffer from serious inaccuracies.

He left broadcasting in 2006 to focus on avocational pursuits, many of which relate to sound recordings. He produces CDs and writes liner notes which, in the last three years, have been nominated for six Grammys and won one (for Lost Sounds — Best Historical Album, 2006). He is also a principal at First Sounds, a collaboration of experts dedicated to making the earliest sound recordings available to all people for all time. First Sounds' discovery of the world's first playable audio recording from 1860 and their resurrection of the voice was front page news in 2008.

Listed below are the places he's lived and the major institutions with which he's been associated.

1988-present: Derwood, Maryland. 1980-1988: Silver Spring, Maryland. 1976-1980: Madison, Wisconsin. 1972-1976: Stockton, California. 1954-1972: Walnut Grove, California.
